At times we all experience a hard time getting to sleep. This can be down to bad food too late at night, too many screens and bright lights before bed, and lets not forget stress.
Can’t sleep? Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique that claims to help you nod off in 60 SECONDS
- Method has been pioneered by Harvard-trained Dr Andrew Weil
- It involves regulating your breathing to various counts of 4, 7 and 8
- It lets oxygen better fill the lungs, calms the mind and relaxes muscles
So How Does It Work?
Harvard-educated Dr. Andrew Weil developed this method after studying meditation, breathing, and how it can be used to counteract stress and anxiety.
It’s simple. You breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold it for seven seconds, and exhale through your mouth for eight seconds.
This technique slows down your heart rate and it also releases chemicals in our brains that soothe you.
I was initially skeptical, but gave it a go anyway. To my surprise it actually worked! I was out before I reached my fifth cycle and it sends me under easily in less than a minute
You are actually counteracting the natural effects of adrenaline and your body is quickly forced to reduce your heart rate. When you begin, it may feel slightly uncomfortable but stick with it
As you continue, you’ll feel your heart rate slow and your mind begin to clear.
It’s so relaxing! Give it a go tonight and tell us what you think!
