A teenage girl has shared the racist texts her father sent her after she went to prom with a black friend.
Anna Hayes, from Arkansas, asked Phillip Freeman to be her date and later shared pictures of the pair on Facebook. It was then that she received these shocking messages from her father.
She sent them over to Phillip who shared them on Twitter.
Speaking to Buzzfeed, she explained that she didn’t know that Phillip was going to share the texts, but she’s very happy that he did. She explained: “It’s important for people to see that racism is very much alive.”
Anna lived with her dad when she was younger after her parents divorced, but she later moved in with her mum. Since then, their relationship has been pretty much nonexistent.
“He had always been openly racist around me when I was growing up in his household, but it never really occurred to me what it exactly meant to be racist, when you’re a child you look at the world completely different,” she told Buzzfeed
