Recently, scientists conducted a study on women between 22 and 45 who were experiencing slight or constant blindness. The women had one thing in common – all of them regularly checked their smartphone before going to bed. This led to the conclusion that this seemingly normal habit can seriously damage your eyes.
The reason for this is that the human eye is accustomed to the darkness in the room before going to bed. When you put a light in front of your face, one eye processes the absence of light, while the other processes the excess light, which confuses the brain and causes temporary blindness that can progress to permanent blindness over time. Experts recommend to avoid this dangerous habit, and sticking to only 15 minutes if you must do it with the lights in the room still on. When you’re ready to go to bed, turn off your phone and the light and sleep in complete darkness.
